England Will Regain Glory
Similar player restrictions have helped countries improve their national team performance immensely by putting in place similar player restrictions in the professional leagues in other sports.
Indian Primer League and the Indian national team performance
IPL (Indian Primer League) also has such a restriction since its inception in 2008. No more than 11 foreign players can be in the squad and a maximum of four foreign players can be in the playing eleven. This has in turn given boost to the rise in the new talent in the Indian cricket. As the Graph showing the Internatioal Cricket Council Teams ranking for India clearly depicts the change in their performance from 2008 onwards.
The graph tells the story for itself. The biggest evidence that backs this argument is India winning the Cricket World cup 2011 exactly three years later. The restriction did work to increase the quality of National Team and it is highly likely that it might work in the EPL.
Korean goalkeeper's restriction paves South Korea’s way to FIFA World Cup 2002 Semi Finals
The K league, South Korea’s professional football league had mostly international goalkeepers so the local goal keepers did not have a chance to groom. The national team consequently did not do very well. In 1997 K League introduced a restriction on foreign goalkeepers. The result was the amazing performance of the South Korean National Goal Keeper Lee Woon-jae in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Courtesy of his amazing performance in the quarterfinals in the final penalty shootout, South Korea for the first time in FIFA history qualified for the World Cup semifinals. He was also named the player of the match for the quarterfinal against Spain.
If the restriction can improve Indian Cricket and Korean football, it will surely be very good for the English Football!
